About Me:
Matt’s first attempt to paint graffiti art was at the age of 13 and has continued to produce graffiti murals his whole life. He has now flourished not only as a recognised and respected graffiti artist within the scene, but also as an accomplished fine artist regularly exhibiting in galleries. Growing up in Melbourne he has witnessed the vibrant graffiti scene evolve here and around the world. In recent years he has travelled widely throughout Europe, South America and Asia. He prides himself on recently residing in Barcelona, one of the most vibrant fine art and graffiti capitals of the world.
A few months before the 2008 “Don’t Ban The Can”, Matt jumped on board to become the Arts Director. This made him a key member for management and production throughout the event. Managing a range of tasks, his primary job was to coordinate the “Live Painting Arena”, which made up a large and important part of the festival. His role began with the coordination of a select group of renowned Melbourne graffiti artists of which 28 individuals were chosen. Because of the high number of artists involved he needed to provide each of them with ample space to produce there work. As a result he engineered three separate wall structures that were to be built on the morning of the festival. The walls were constructed from raw materials and erected in the middle of
the park were the festival took place. The ‘Live Painting Arena’ was a huge success, an area of more than one hundred meters was painted on the day and also included were areas for competitions and other events.
Matt has had a significant amount of experience in events, in particular those that have focused on the creation of artwork. Just this year, he produced three murals for the Moreland City Council YouthBeatz Festival, coordinating them so they were all completed live, on the day. He also played a significant part in the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, which amounted to three separate contracts. This involved two Catwalks to be painted (one painted live in between shows) and a street art demonstration/workshop for all the public to enjoy.
