It’s been a turbulent time for the music industry in the last few years. While (most) artists are embracing the potential connectivity with fans through the internet, it seems that the big labels are still trying to claw onto a business model that’s been obviously outdated and ineffective for a few years. That’s why its refreshing to see Deerhoof use the very tool that the labels are rebelling against so effectively, the internet.
Deerhoof have released sheet music for their latest song Fresh Born. They’ve invited fans and musicians alike to interpret their song, record it, upload it to their blogs and then to the Deerhoof site. Your guess is as good as mine as to what they’ll do with these songs, maybe release a few of them on a compilation?
So have a go at tackling the song, just remember to send something to us at WMSG (send us an e-mail) and don’t forget the terms of the creative commons license!
Stay tuned for WMSG’s version of Deerhoof’s Fresh Born.
