[Music Stuff] Five Songs and a Fever

So I’ve promised many times that I’d write something for WMSG. An album review. Some proper poetry. A short story. Something.
Jesus, anything.
But, true to my slackest nature I’ve yet to churn out more than a few lines of literary procrastination and bad jokes. So now, bed-stricken and fever-dreaming, I present a review of 5 songs that I’m listening to.
Grouper - Heavy Water / I’d Rather Be Sleeping
I can’t imagine a more succinct soundtrack to my sleepy, hot, heavy head. Grouper used to make soundscapes of drone-y ambiance but on her latest album she…. well it’s pretty much the same but with the vocals and acoustic guitar turned up in the mix. Considering I feel like my muscles are useless and my forehead is hot enough to singe my fringe I guess it’s no surprise that I quite like this song. A water/sleep combination sounds exactly like what I need.
Deerhoof - Basketball Get Your Groove Back
Jesus Christ, thanks Deerhoof, like I wasn’t confused enough already. I could have sworn I liked this song yesterday but somehow treble/drive drenched guitar combined with cartoon pop is making me nauseous. The call of ‘Go go, champions! Speed speed, champions!’ might be more appropriate if I wasn’t laying around, developing bedsores.
Silver Apples - Oscillations
I read somewhere that this song is something like the 150th best song of the 60s. Is that an accolade? If I somehow achieved such a feat (using a time machine and a music almanac alaBack To The Future II) I don’t know if I’d bring it up in conversation. I’m sure their mums are proud. The actual song is great, it’s basically the sounds of one guy tripping and turning dials on his oscillator, the sort of toy that would leave one bedroom bound for most of their waking hours, making bizarre noises and pretending that they’re a musical genius.
I wish I had an oscillator.
Current 93 - All The Pretty Little Horses
An apocalyptic folk song. Yeah it’s about as fun as it sounds.
Mogwai - Stupid Prick Gets Chased By The Police And Loses His Slut Girlfriend
Considering the title the song’s actually pretty soothing. Maybe it’s the chiming guitars, or maybe it’s the relentlessly optimistic melody, or maybe it’s my immune system but my fever has dropped a few points and I don’t feel so bad. Who would’ve thought the moodiest men in Glasgow were capable of such acts?

I’m listening to Grouper - Heavy Water / I’d Rather Be Sleeping now. Sooo good, she sounds like a ghost, but I like it!
Fever for the flavour?
Man, I wish I was sick.
That music is really brilliant, I love it!
