Animal Collective, a New York/Wasington based experimental pop group are taking over Berlin’s infamous Berghain tonight for what I can only imagine to be one amazingly psychedelic night.
Deakin (Josh Dibb) Avey Tare (David Portner), Geologist (Brian Weitz) and Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) are the 4 weirdos behind the group, having released seven very different albums since the band formed in 2000. Each one has a challenging, distinct sound that I can’t get enough of, including their latest LP, Strawberry Jam.
There is no structure to their concerts, just like it seems there is no structure to their music. They’re notorious for their live improvisation and extended jams, and are in the process of redying material for their new album, due in January 2009. Prepare yourselves, hold on tight, it could get a little crazy.
The show is sold out, but no doubt there will be some scalping going on. Join me in a pop, noise, psychedelic folk adventure tonight at Berghain!
