[Social Stuff] Enviro Warrior - The Venus Project
comment 2 Comments Written by Camilla Bromann on November 13, 2008 – 10:05 pm

The Venus Project proposes a total make-over for this world. Not a half-assed ecological-eye-for-the-capitalist-guy lowering of carbon emissions but a full blown revamp of the world as we know it. Crazy? You bet!

Can a future without economical, ecological, religious or political restrictions make for a happier populace, or is this project just a way of saying ‘the world sucks as it is, lets take acid and publish theoretically impossible ideas that can never come true, and in that way make life on earth a little bit funnier!’?

It’s perfectly fine to have silly ideas, even if we can’t make a better future out of them. Check out this article, have a laugh and then wait a minute and then ask yourself ‘can we really make this sweet dream come true?’ It’s scary, but good.. and we like good stuff, don’t we!?

  2. When you look back 100 years at what people thought the world would be like today, they were always ridiculously off. When we look back at this in 100 years I think we’ll all think the same. That doesn’t mean these aren’t great ideas, I just don’t think humans are capable of getting rid of poverty, money, greed or war just yet. As a result of the monetary system we’re all forced to live in, humans are inherently selfish, the only thing that will unite us as a global community will be a global disaster like a comet or alien invasion. It’s only until we’re personally threatened that we give shit. That being said I think that The Venus Project’s goals are quite admirable:

    1. Realizing the declaration of the world’s resources as being the common heritage of all Earth’s people.

    2. Transcending the need for the artificial boundaries that separate people.

    3. Outgrowing monetary-based, nationalistic economies with a resource-based world economy.

    4. Assisting in stabilizing the world’s population through education and voluntary birth control.

    5. Reclaiming and restoring the natural environment to the best of our ability.

    6. Redesigning our cities, transportation systems, agricultural industries and industrial plants so that they are energy efficient, clean, and able to conveniently serve the needs of all people.

    7. Sharing and applying new technologies for the benefit of all nations.

    8. Developing and using clean, renewable energy sources.

    9. Manufacturing the highest quality products for the benefit of the world’s people.

    10. Requiring environmental impact studies prior to construction of any mega projects.

    11. Encouraging the widest range of creativity and incentive toward constructive endeavor.

    12. Outgrowing nationalism, bigotry and prejudice through education.

    13. Outgrowing any type of elitism, technical or otherwise.

    14. Arriving at methodologies by careful research, rather than random opinions.

    15. Enhancing communication in schools so that our language is relevant to the physical conditions of the world.

    16. Providing not only the necessities of life, but also offering challenges that stimulate the mind while emphasizing individuality rather than uniformity.

    17. Finally, preparing people intellectually and emotionally for the changes and challenges that lie ahead.
