Everyone knows Ian ‘Huey’ Hewitson but just in case you don’t, he has donned our television screens with his tasty meals for years. Barney Allen’s is his latest creation and the evidence is in the food and its presentation. Although simple the menu explores and array of flavours. The cocktail list is just as adventurous and refreshing.
After some relaxing Heinekens, nicely paired up with Polenta Chips and Spicy Mayo the mains arrive. The famous Tolarno Burger bursts flavour: with a good quality beef pattie, traditional salad filling and an interesting beetroot relish. The fries on the side are a little over proportioned [Hewey!!!]. The other main is a Red Chicken and Pumpkin Curry, it’s simply divine. The chillie levels are just right allowing me to taste the coconut, spices and coriander. The chicken is so moist it melts in my mouth and the sweet pumpkin fits nicely with the rest of the dish. The variety of flavours are a delight to my palette.
Over all Barney Allen’s is warm and inviting. The decor is ambient and interesting; art and posters adorn the dark timber and burnt red walls. The food and presentation definitely deserve the attention of an avid foodie, and you may even get a chance to catch Huey in person!
