Lately I’ve been thinking about memorable music moments and the bands from my teens who have had an impact on my creative endeavours.

In 1997, I was a 15 -year-old pork chop with curly hair down to my shoulders, a face full of bum fluff and some of the best man boobs in town. I can still remember waking up and watching ABC’s Recovery one particular Saturday morning so I could see the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play a couple of songs… I was left with nothing more than a shit gobbling grin that stretched from ear to ear and my chin resting on the floor.

So…the Sex Pistols had said fuck on national television years before, Siouxsie Sioux had been parading around with her tits out for the past 20 years – calling herself a goth goddess singing the lords prayer to unwilling listeners, whilst the New York Dolls and the Ramones were STILL high as a kite and vomiting into buckets onstage.

Check out this clip from that very segment of Recovery where the Blues Explosion tore shit up and left a whole heap of hungover, longhaired stoners gasping for air and speechless. You can see the girl who’s wearing a Smashing Pumpkins jumper isn’t to impressed and is thinking to herself in a Daria type voice ‘this is so uncool maaaaaan’.

Where’s your Bullet with Butterfly Wings now, mofo!?

It’s been 11 years since I saw this go live- to- air and I have to say it still leaves me speechless/excited/angry and hyperactive all at the same time.

I’ll have more snippets to post up of other bands I found to be an influence from the 90s so keep your eyes peeled!
