Canadian artist Acorn is high rollin’ in Melbourne Town!
What: Acorn’s solo exhibition “My Kingdom, Not Yours”.
When: Opening night April 30. 2009. Runs until May 17.
Where: Gorker Gallery, 395 Gore Street, Fitzroy.
First time I met Acorn, WMSG was promoting Don’t Ban the Can at a live art show/workshop featuring Drewster, Maxcat, and this new and very talented kid. All art made at the workshop went for gold coin donations and every time a beautiful piece of art was swapped for a piece of fake aussie gold it was very hard not to scream “DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU JUST BOUGHT FOR 2 BUCKS?” Anyway, the art was amazing, especially Acorn’s drawings which caught a lot of attention.
This was, like. 10 months ago and we have all been following his work. We’ve seen the major progression of his art and style and have all been amazed by the speed and seamless way in which he has intregrated into the Melbourne art scene. His “Triforce Advance” associated with Nior and Ghost patrol is just one of many admirable things Acorn has been a part of for created in his short time here.
And now Gorker Gallery is presenting his new works in the “My Kingdom, Not Yours” solo exhibition which is kicking off April 30.
His art may not be sold for donation prices this time, which gives me the freedom not to fight and shout things anymore.
So now, I invite you to come have a chilled night and really appreciate his work for what it is and not what it’s sold for: Gold.
