A new exhibition starring some of Melbourne’s greatest graph artists and illustrators opens soon at Kristian Pithie Gallery.

‘The outsiders dwell on the edge, on the fringe of the acceptable, making their marks independently of the formal codes and conventions of Fine Art. These makers skirt and bridge the realms of graffiti, street, commercial and illustrative art…

Often seen as belonging to one or more of these groups, their influence on each other and the broader creative landscape stretches far and wide. It is their unique differences and adaptability that gives them strength as individuals; this variation also blesses their practices with longevity and meaning that grows over time. Whilst their diversity as a group is clear, each artist standing distinctively apart, they are ultimately united as ‘outsiders.’ - Kristian Pithie Gallery.

When: Tuesday May 12 – Saturday June 6

Who: Hugo Atkins, Ainslie Fletcher, Fred Fowler, Meggs, Miso,Kill Pixie, Tai Snaith, Trent Whitehead & Vexta

Damage: Free

Where: Kristian Pithie Gallery  27 Gipps St Richmond

About The Author: Poppy Calhoun

I love portraiture and documentary photography. I keep telling myself I will have time to work on more personal art projects one day. Currently I’m working on a series of portraits for the We Make Stuff Good crew, which is coming soon, I promise Krystal! The documentation of Melbourne street art – in particular Sketch City and Don't Ban the Can – are a continuous and inspiring projects. I am also starting to shoot portraits for bands and personalities. Keep a look out for Simon Write & the Ecclective, and those crazy graph kids Juzzo and Spud Roc.
