Subway Art 25th Anniversary Edition

For all you graf lovers and hip hoppers, about a month ago one of the illest books in the graffiti world was released anouncing its 25th Anniversary! Wednesday May 13th at Revolution Books, in Chelsea, NYC, was the first book release party and signing for SUBWAY ART 25, in large-scale dope format! With both authors/photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chaflant (director of Style Wars) on site.

These two photographers together documented the New York City graffiti movement in the 1970’s and 80’s.  25 years later and more than a half a million copies later, their best selling book SUBWAY ART was re-released in big format with new pages and extra commentary.

I was lucky enough to stumble over a flyer for the party the night of.  I got there right on time to meet Martha, see Henry, meet KASE, STAY HIGH and many others.  Including TUT-ONE seen in one of the photos below pointing to his tag in a window of a subway car.

They ran out of books for sale, but I was still able to purchase one to be picked up later that would still get signed by both artists! The experience was great as always when it comes to graffiti events here in NYC. That Friday I ran into LEE and Lady Pink at a CRASH and DAZE exhibition opening. Small world.  Enjoy the photos. Check out the extra large scale, you can see every last detail down to the tiny color fades on each piece.
