If design and art books are your thing, particularly graffiti books, come July 1st, be on the lookout for one that is a must to be on your shelves amongst your Graffiti World, Dondi White Style, Street Logos, collection of old sketch books, that limited edition vinyl toy and other good stuff that you put on there.
Compiled and co-authored by graffiti veterans Duro Cubrillo, Martin Harvey and Karl Stamer and a year and a half in the making, Kings Way, will be the most significant piece of writing on the beginnings of Australian graffiti, particularly Melbourne. As the title suggests Kings Way ‘The Beginnings of Australian Graffiti:Melbourne 1983-1983′, expect this book to be your visual encyclopedia to the evolution of Melbourne’s and Australia’s graffiti subculture. This is truly a tribute to writers and crews that pioneered the evolution of street art during the early days up until today.
A collection of full colour images contributed by the likes of Duet, Duel, Merda, Paris
(featured at Don’t Ban The Can 07) and Ransom to name a few, this 384 page book is sure to impress.
This book will be available from July 1st at all good book stores for a retail price of $64.95 (That’s even cheaper than a monthly Metcard ;))
There is also a special edition numbered release with two alternate covers to choose from. This book comes in a protective slipcase box, black foil, unique end paper design by images and signed by the authors. ($99, good deal I reckon). You can order it here.
There will also be an official launch at ACMI on July 18th. Hopefully there’ll be a signing too! Check for updates here And if the authors/publishers are reading this, won’t hurt for you guys to send me free signed copy for the promotion would it? *wink*.
