Stencils are every where these days. From Star Wars to Kevin Rudd, people are spraying stencils to have a laugh or to be really serious and talk about the the injustice of society and Blah blah ablha…. You can’t walk down the streets of the inner suburbs of Melbourne with out seeing the repetitive street art stencil. So why would you look at em in gallery, cause Ralf Kempken know how to make them really good!
Ralf Kempken is a local artist and master of stencil art. This exciting exhibition features new hand-cut screens and canvasses. Based on ideas of Plato’s “Timaeus” that the eye contains “fire” which emits light and in conjunction with daylight illuminates the object. Perspective, illusion and disillusion. What are you really seeing?
