Pull up a bean bag, grab a glass of wine or a bottle a beer, sit back, relax and enjoy this mini slide show and brief descriptions of a selection of the exhibitions I’ve been apart of during the past few months that you may not of been able to get to see for one reason or another.
They say when it rains it pours and the past few months have been no exception. Starting with ‘Random Collective’ an exhibition held in regional Victoria that I curate each year. This year it was held at Mushroom Crafts in Leongatha and opened on Saturday 30 May for one month.
As the space was more intermit I arranged a small select group of some well known and not so well known faces in the Melbourne art scene. Those that came along on this country road trip were Alice McKellar, Kate Brownlee, Kate Lightfoot, Laura McKellar, Leeana Edwards, Megan Dell, Rhen, Snookie, Meredith Earls and of coarse me (Nicole Tattersall)
Then followed by The Round Up’, a group live paint session held over a 24 hour period by the folks at Per Square Meter starting at 9am Monday 1 June.
This time round the theme was ‘The Sea’ and as water has been a huge influence in my life how could I resist being a part of this event/exhibition. So off I went after work and joined the likes of Rachee Renae, Snookie, Gadzee and Sear to create what I would latter title ‘Humpback Whales - Mother and Calf’. This piece is a little different to alot of the other ‘stitched animals’ as rather than keep them flat I added some high lights and shadows as well as a background that is similar to the whales natural environment.
On Saturday 20 June was the much anticipated Grand Opening exhibition of At Large Gallery in Northcote, which featured so many talented artists I’d never seen before, along with some good old favorites.
I was told recently by the gorgeous people at At Large that my ‘Face & Fringe Azure’, which was in the exhibition received heaps of great feedback, which is always nice to hear. I also had on show my ‘Ducks in a Cup - Pink’ that as a result has found a loving home.
Early in July with only just over a weeks notice I accepted to take on the role of curating the Melbourne Curvy Launch at Magnation. Which at first may sound daunting to most but as half the artists in Random Collective were part of Curvy this year I had the artwork on hand and only needed to arrange a few more additional pieces. The biggest issues were working out where to put the artworks as there was very limited wall space and making sure that we used every minute of the few days we had to promote the event.
We overcame these problems with the use of easels and pulpits which added such a nice touch to the space that has wall to wall bookcases and we tweeted, emailed and bloged till we could no more.
Just when I thought that everything was all settled and that it was time to just relax, the guys at No Vacancy Gallery hit me up with a few days notice to be apart of a display at Melbourne Central as a part of a two week street art festival called Two Blocks which ended on Sunday 26 July.
It was nice to show my works alongside the likes of Megan Dell, Floh, Laser Fist and several other artists. Even though the works were for sale it was nice to do it just for the fun of it. I had put in some older works and some works that had yet to been shown in Melbourne due to the limited amount of notice and the complete lack of new artworks that no-one has seen that I have on hand.
For those wondering what’s next, well nothing really I’ll be enjoying a little bit of quite time except for a few small projects in the pipeline, which will allow me to focus primarily on a big show I’m doing with Megan Dell, next year. However knowing my luck something very last minute will pop up no doubt.
