robio

Robio has been around for a few years and it’s been one of my favourite stores. I’ve brought heaps of stuff from there and found it the perfect place to find a present for anyone for any occasion. It’s really sad to see them go. But you know what, they’ll need to sell off all their stuff, so hop on down before it’s gone daddy gone.

We recently sent off an email to the kids at Robio to ask ‘em what was goin’ on?

Visit their store

Emma Robio: We don’t have an exact date for the city store closing but the Fitzroy store’s last day will be August 29…

Krystal Stuff: How long have you owned and operated the store?
Emma Robio: We started out with the Robio website in November 2005 but then ventured into the real world in May 2006 in Fitzroy and went on to open in Melbourne Central late last year.

Krystal Stuff: What was your philosophy when running the store?
Emma Robio: Initially we we’re sick of seeing the same stock in every shop in Melbourne and thought that we couldn’t be the only ones thinking this, so travelled around the world to find unique independant labels that created products in limited quantities with a whole lot of pop culture thrown in there too. This then evolved into stocking a lot of artists designed products in all shapes and forms

Krystal Stuff: What do you plan to pursue now that the store is closing?

Emma Robio: A gigantic holiday is pursuing! We’ll be back though, but pursuing our own artistic creativity.

Krystal Stuff: Do you have any advice for small design based retail business just starting out?
Emma Robio: All the Kid robot stock. Every season they outdo themselves and I’m going to miss getting in all that stock to run a muck with! Only buy the things you love, not what you think will sell.
I’m going to miss Robio like my right arm that is helping right is article. It makes me sad to think they are going. They were really a one-of-a-kind store with really nice poeple to help you out at any time.
