Around the globe inner-city suburbs are experiencing rapid rent hikes, leaving artist’s communities struggling while corporate professionals–eager to experience hip urban living–comfortably move in.The I Want To Live Here film competition is aimed at highlighting the impact artists have on inner city suburbs and how too often they simply get priced out of a suburb when it becomes trendy.
Ironically it’s the artists in the first place who drive these neighbourhoods: establishing cool cafes, alternative art spaces, vintage shopping and a positive community vibe. As a growing demand for housing makes rent unaffordable, artists are then pushed out of the area.
We are hoping that people will make films looking at changes in their neighbourhood or how rent hikes have impacted their creativity. To check the entrance guidelines and start making a film of your own visit the I Want To Live Here website. Entries close November 4.
The winning films will be announced at a screening on December 2 at the Order of Melbourne. Stay tuned to We Make Stuff Good for screenings of the winning films.
