keepcup

Do you ever feel a little guilty when you toss your take-away coffee cup? When I found this reusable cup at the “Design:Made:Trade” exhibition I had to buy one immediately and it became my precious friend in a matter of seconds.

The recyclable propilene it is made of has a life span of four years (how many cups  would I have thrown away in over 1400 days? at least 2000), it`s dishwasher safe, microwaveable, stackable and beautiful to touch and drink from. It never leaks (as long as you remember to turn the plug and seal it), takes less room than a metallic travel cup (and is definitively lighter to carry), comes in three sizes and an array of colours.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the smart cup has a universal lid and band for all sizes: you can swap them and personalize the silicone band with your coffee preference, corporate logo and/or slogan.

I personally am a fan of this philosophy of design: the same money needed for repeated purchase of disposable and dysfunctional objects can be spent on something well designed, made to last, beautiful and environmental. I bet it`s also nicer to work in such a productive environment than to make millions of  items that are one step away from rubbish even when they’re still new. Prices vary from $10.20 for the small one to $12.20 for the large one.

  1. Cool design, and crucial idea to the survival of humanity AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  2. I actually brought one of these. I like it, it looks nice but my coffee goes cold really quickly. Any one else find that?

  3. You reckon quicker than in paper cups? I`m actually always struggling to drink coffees hotter than my human body can deal with, am I a minority?

  4. I had one and was surprised how long it stuck to the roof of my car before flying off… The coffee explosion in the rear view mirror was all the more poignant due to the fact that the cup and lid looked like they had survived - if only I had been able to stop and retrieve it before the following traffic smashed it!!
Maybe you need to invent a suction base modification for idiots/sleepyheads!

  6. Was so pleased with the keepcup I got for my birthday early December! No it doesn’t keep coffee hot for long, but I enjoy mine straight away once I’m in the traffic flow.

BUT! it has now started to leak around the the base of the lid… not nice down the front of a white shirt… ggrr! I’ve checked that the lid is being put on correctly (my partner soemtimes makes my coffee!) sit it flat on the bench. After another morning of slow drips, I’ve just tried it with cold water same problem! anyone else had thsi problem! I’ll have to toss as it’s no good like this. Very disappointed as the concept is great.

  7. A friend bought two of these cups for my wife and I two months ago. We love it and use it everyday. The bad thing is that few weeks ago, it started to leak at the base of the lid. It’s a slow drip every now and then when I drink the coffee. This is very disappointing.

Does KeepCup have any warranty on this? Can I return it or exchange for a new cup? The whole concept is that I can take my coffeewhen I’m travelling but I don’t want to have coffee leaking while I’m driving.

  8. Hi there,
I’m from KeepCup - we e do have a one year warranty and will replace if the KeepCup is returned subject to fair wear and tear - not run over by a car!
Check the address on the website and return http://www.keepcup.com.au
As regards the leak - this will occur if the lip of the cup is scratched or dented or either lid or cup comes out of shape. If there are no visible scratches or dents, wash in the top rack of the dishwasher and the cup and lid may resume their original shape.
There are a substantial volume of cups out there in the market place and we have has less than ten that have leaked - we are hoping they will last four years - our engineers say that under the right conditions they will last forever!

  9. Mine leaks too. I’ve had it for about a year.

  10. I have two and my older one (about 16 months old) has started leaking — mine and my boyfriends fault for taking it skating and then stacking it I suppose. Can I order just a new cup? It seems a waste to have to order a whole new one when it is just the cup that is the problem…

It is awesome though — I had to buy the second one after my boyfriend kept pinching my first one :)

  11. I contacted Keep Cup about buying a new cup only to stop the leaking I described in the comment above and their response was that they don’t sell components seperately but that they would send me a replacement one free of charge!

Thanks Keep Cup — I would have felt very guilty buying a whole new cup when it is only one of the bits that is causing the leak. Though you should definitely consider selling the components seperately, I would have been more than happy to pay for a replacement part.

  12. Does anyone know where I could order branded keep cups from besides http://www.keepcup.com? I would need around 25?

  13. I’ve had a keep cup for about a year now. I absolutely love it, but it has started leaking around the rim. 4 year life span they say…hmmm.
