Those who know me well know that I’m a massive fan of the music by James Mercer from The Shins. I love his deep and cryptic lyrics, his alternative melodies and feel good bopping rhythms. I was glad to hear that James Mercer recently teamed up with musician and producer Danger Mouse and what came out was a project called Broken Bells.

Much like when Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard teamed up with Jimmy Tamborello to produce the Postal Service, Broken Bells is a mix of well formed lyrics and electronic melody that makes for delicious, well formed pop. Have a listen to Broken Bells first single The High Road here.

About The Author: Poppy Calhoun

I love portraiture and documentary photography. I keep telling myself I will have time to work on more personal art projects one day. Currently I’m working on a series of portraits for the We Make Stuff Good crew, which is coming soon, I promise Krystal! The documentation of Melbourne street art – in particular Sketch City and Don't Ban the Can – are a continuous and inspiring projects. I am also starting to shoot portraits for bands and personalities. Keep a look out for Simon Write & the Ecclective, and those crazy graph kids Juzzo and Spud Roc.
