Capturing ones’ imagination and inner mystique is a naturally occuring daily existence for anyone under the age of six. For most of us, you start aging and then the magical potion of expression is educated out of our system. Gone, only to be barely relived through mediocre films and T.V programs.
This was until the Four Larks came along. They are an arts collective who spread all the way from here in Australia to the ol’ wild west, USA. Taking ingredients such as visual arts, music, and theatre and tossing them all together like some kind of obscure art salad, giving you a flavour that cannot be mimicked…
The Fate of Franklin and his Gallant Crew is the latest Four Larks production. It is the story of Lord Franklin who was the first governer of Van Diemens Land (Tasmania). Lord Franklin, an explorer, set sail across the arctic where he became trapped for some time. This is where the story takes place.
Making for a ground breaking, cognitively moving exhibition of art, Four Larks have cast Charles Dickens (yes the dead literary character who wrote Oliver Twist) as the director of the play. As the plot thickens, you’ll find Dickens becoming engulfed into the story, abandoning his responsibilities as a director.
Don’t expect to attend a regular theatre either. These guys have been known to show in unconventional performances spaces including art galleries and warehouses – taking punters out of their comfort zone and into a pure, expressive atmosphere.
