We’re eyeballing our calendars in the hope that the numbers will read the 18th and 19th sooner. Our sketch books are ready. In anticipation, and to bide some time, we thought we’d share our hi-lights from last year’s Semi-Permanent . To the ummers and ahhrers it really is worth the money. To fellow calendar gazers, we’d love to hear about your SP hi-lights too, send ‘em in through the comments section. No need to stress if you haven’t gotten yourself a ticket yet, there’s still some here.
Day 19
Jeremey and Claire Weiss are a couple with a kid, but they are far from your average white picket fence family. The two lived a free life of rocking up to skate parks, chilling and taking photos until they decided it was time they needed a manager. Comfortable working together they started Day 19.
They are creative professional photographers that have worked for brands such as Converse and taken photos of numerous rock stars. The thing I enjoyed mostly about them was there approachable, relaxed attitude to life and their offer to stay on their couch. Thanks guys!
Luke Lucas
There is an art to true typography and Luke has the skills to tell you a story through the use of kern, illustration and letter height in ways you can’t imagine.
Last year was the second time a saw Luke Lukas at SP. This time he focused on his body of work which is full of the most amazing typography design. In the digital realm the importance of typography can become lost and sometimes totally forgotten. Once you are subjected to such awesome work like Luke’s you’re hooked straight away. Yeah WOW. You can check his out his stuff in the magazine he is co-founded, Lifelounge.
Hammer & Tong
A true inspiration to Melbourne graphic designers. They just look like they are from Melbourne, jumping on the stage with not a single thread of any other colour but black black black. They are a couple of uni mates that went 100% for their goal. You can check out some of the their design styles at cafes in Melbourne such as ‘Cavallero’ or the magazine ‘A Fine Line’. They are focused, motivated and have an impeccable design aesthetic: A great one to bookmark for future reference.
Keith Schofield
The rock star of the whole event. His presentation showed that you can’t give up on your video dreams. Keith’s wacky sense of humour sets him apart from a lot of other music video directors. Blahs, Blahs, Blahs, why am I writing about video just go and watch it!
We recommend SP for designers that was to be inspired in whatever field they wish to succeed in: Film, video, print, design, motion graphics, 2D & 3D animation. Whatever it is bring a sketch pad ’cause ideas will explode from your brain.
